Did you consider other universities when you were deciding to study?

I had engaged in an abundance of research for Sports Therapy courses, however, I considered studying at Perth College UHI because they were very appealing and unique. They gave the option of always gaining an industry recognised qualification after each year and the learning would be more intimate, rather than being taught in huge lecture theatres. Speaking to lecturers beforehand really helped to answer all my questions and they were knowledgeable and enthusiastic

Why was this right course for you?

I have always loved to help and work with people and had a keen interest in sports, and sports therapy encompasses all of these. Excellent on-site facilities are all available under one roof - with fantastic opportunities such as an outstanding training clinic, local and national events, and conferences. I could also implement my theoretical and practical knowledge learnt in class, straightaway on real problems.

What do you think about the style of teaching and the support you receive from tutors and lecturers?

Each tutor and lecturer were unique in their way of teaching. They have vast amounts of knowledge and experience, that is undoubtedly helpful for students becoming sport therapists. Lectures were taught in an enjoyable, yet endearing, way and it was intimate which meant questions could be asked regularly due to the size of the classes. From my experience, they provided all types of support at any given time and directed you to the correct people if necessary.

Have you been involved in any sports, social or cultural clubs or activities whilst at Perth College UHI?

When I first joined here, I had become a member of the gym straightaway, because the facilities were brilliant and I enjoyed the group exercise classes they offered - all of which are at an inexpensive price.

Have you undertaken any student placements?

I have undertaken a local work placement as part of my third-year studies because this will aid to improve and enhance my personal and therapeutic skills further, enabling me to become a competent therapist as well as knowledgeable in real-life practices.

Did you contact our Careers and Employability team for any advice?

I had contacted the Careers and Employability team to gain further understanding of the sports therapy industry and the opportunities that could be available once I become fully qualified. The Careers and Employability team provide in-depth support, assistance, and clarity.

What career direction would you like to take after studying?

This is something that I am flexible with because it has opened many exciting opportunities for me, such as undertaking further studies into Osteopathy or working as part of a multi-disciplinary clinic team.

How do you feel your studies will help you in your career progression?

The completion of my studies enables me to achieve a known qualification and a skill set which I can use anywhere in this world. I also believe this will open a plethora of opportunities in doing further studies and employment in independent or team-based clinics or sports clubs. There will always be scope to be involved in various CPD courses to further gain and enhance my skillset and services. The higher the level of my qualification, the more advanced skills, and services I can acquire.

What advice would you give to those considering studying?

You will be very surprised, in a positive way, of how much you will learn in a short amount of time. However, this is a challenging course - although easily achievable if you can time manage well, always focus and invest time and dedication towards the course. Every module in each year, always linked to each other in some shape or form, which in a way was very beneficial as this made me understand much more clearly and consolidate my learning. I highly recommend attending all days the training clinic is on because I learned and experienced so much here which provided me the confidence and encouragement of learning everything about sports therapy.

What are your favourite things about Perth College UHI?

I have many favourite things and some of them include: my amazing and loving friends; the helpful, friendly, and caring staff and lecturers; the outstanding facilities; and the training clinic, which played a huge part in helping me craft my sports therapy skills.
