Student Spotlight - Lesley Rogers

Office administration plays a vital role within any organisation and is a job that will always be in demand. At UHI Perth, we talk to employers locally and nationally to ensure that all our Administration and IT courses provide the most current knowledge and skills required in the workplace. One of our current students is currently halfway through a two-year course. She shares an insight 👇

What is your name, and where are you from?

My name is Lesley, and I am from Portsmouth. I moved to Dundee when I was two.

What course are you studying at UHI Perth, and what year are you currently in?

I am currently in year 1 of studying the HND Admin and IT course (year 1 is the HNC).

How did you hear about UHI Perth?

I heard about the college through their social media pages and then on UCAS when applying for the course that I am doing.

What were you doing before you came to college?

I was at high school in Monifieth doing my Nat 5 and higher qualifications.

Why did you decide to pick this course?

I decide to do this course because I found Higher Admin easy, apart from the writing element, as well as I really enjoy doing various parts of the course. I want to go into admin in the future, whether it is in the sports industry or not.

What is your favourite thing about the course?

Doing the practical elements, as well as helping some of my classmates if they are stuck and don’t ‘get’ the task and the lecturer is busy with another student.

Has there been any standout/memorable moments from your course?

Meeting new friends on the course to chat about things about the course and any problems that we are having.

What knowledge, skills and experience have you gained from your course that will help you when you leave UHI Perth?

Answering questions in assignments the way that lecturers would like them to be answered, so that when I leave, I am hopefully writing them in the correct way.

Have your lecturers been supportive during your studies?

Yes, they have helped me with the assignments that are due and explained the remediation if I have any for that part of the course.

What do you like about the campus/facilities?

Having Costa and Starbucks on campus to get coffee, as well as having the library to book rooms if you are in college but don’t have a class.

Have you enjoyed studying at UHI Perth? Any highlights?

Yes, I have, especially meeting new friends and improving my knowledge of the admin subject.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of college?

Yes, I do athletics which takes up most of my time outside college as I officiate and compete as an athlete to improve. I enjoy it and it keeps me healthy at the same time.

What are your future career plans?

I would love to either go into some sort of sports administration or medical administration so that I can help others.

And finally, what advice would you give to someone thinking about studying at UHI Perth?

I would say to do it, as all of the lecturers are really nice and understanding of your struggle. You also meet friends for life.

Studying at UHI Perth gives you the perfect opportunity towards securing a successful future. Find your new start and apply now for 2023.
