What to expect at a college/university open day
Thinking about attending one of our Open Days but not sure what to expect? Whether you're feeling excited, nervous, or somewhere in between, we've put together this guide to help you make the most of your visit to UHI Perth 👇
What is an open day?
An Open Day gives prospective students the opportunity to explore our campus and learning facilities to see if it is the right fit for them. Lecturing staff will be on hand to answer questions you have about courses. Specialised teams may also be on hand to offer advice on additional support, funding, applying, and careers.
You may also have the opportunity to join a guided tour of the campus 👀🌳
What does the format of the day look like?
Our Open Days are held in the Academy of Sport and Wellbeing (ASW) – our sport, fitness and wellbeing building. From the main car park, you will be directed to our welcome desk within the ASW sports hall. Our friendly team of Open Day helpers will give you a prospectus, ‘goodie bag’ and a guide for the day and then connect you with your department of interest.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
You might want to write down any answers to questions you ask, so a pen and notepad could be helpful. If you are visiting a number of universities/colleges, it might be useful to take some photos of the campus so that you can compare once your visits are complete.

About the accommodation
When do applications open?
How do I apply?
As our accommodation is occupied by students, we aren't able to offer room viewings during open days. However, our interactive 3D tour gives you a great insight into the accommodation and facilities available.
About the student experience
What events do the students association run?
How do I get involved in any clubs or societies?
What sports facilities are available on campus?
How much is the gym?
How easy is it to get to the campus from the town?
Should I bring people with me?
Most visitors attend with a parent, guardian, family member or friend, and having someone with you can be helpful. A second pair of eyes and ears can help you remember key information and ask questions you may not have considered.
However, many people attend on their own too. Our staff and student ambassadors will be available throughout the day to help you find your way around and answer questions. Look out for UHI Perth t-shirts and lanyards if you need assistance.
Remember, this is your future university experience, so make sure your voice is heard and take the lead in conversations where possible.

What subject areas and services do you want to speak to?
What areas on campus do you want to visit? Check the event listing: www.uhi.ac.uk/events prior to travel as occasionally not all areas are represented at every event.
When studying, are you going to commute or stay on campus? If you are travelling in, you might want to check out the bus route or walk into town to make sure that it is suitable for you.

HISA are the home of societies, clubs, networks, events, representation, campaigning, advice – all the big things when it comes to student life. They are led by our students and operates independently to ensure your voice is heard and your interests are represented. That means they are always here for you when you need honest advice, support and inspiration, and we can focus our time and energy on doing what’s right for you.
When you join UHI Perth, you’re automatically a member of the Students' Association and you’re entitled to join the student groups, use the Advice Service and contact them for support.

Explore the local area
If you're travelling to Perth for the first time, take some time to explore the city and surrounding area. It's a great way to get a feel for what student life could be like here.

Do I need to book a place?
No booking is needed, just turn up between the times advertised. However, if you want to speak to a specific subject area or member of support staff, please check the event listing close to the date and you are also welcome to email us on pc.marketing.perth@uhi.ac.uk to allow us to confirm if they will definitely be at the specific Open Day you are planning on attending.
What if I can’t make this date?
