Student Spotlight - Olushola Babajide
If you’re looking to study an Administration and Information Technology qualification, our courses are designed to meet the demands of today’s modern business environment. They will equip you with the practical skills and knowledge needed to pursue a successful career in business administration.
In this week’s blog, we meet a student who is refreshing their skills after relocating to the UK.
What is your name, and what course are you studying?
My name is Olushola Babajide and I'm studying HNC Administration with Information Technology.
What were you doing before the course? And why did you choose it?
I worked as a carer when I came to the UK but, back home, I juggled two professions - teaching as well as running an office as an office administrator. When I came to the UK, I realised that there are long processes to become a teacher. Part of me still likes the idea of working in Administration, so that’s why I decided to study this course.
How did you feel when you started at UHI Perth?
At first, it was difficult to blend into the system. However, as the time goes on - with the help of Alison who is my Personal Academic Tutor, I’ve blended quite well into the process, and it has been great ever since - and I'm enjoying myself!
What have you studied as part of your course?
Office administration, human resources management, business law, and digital technology. It’s opened my eyes to some things that Scotland holds - like the laws. There are some common laws, but had I not gone through the course, I might not have known.
Have you faced any challenges during your course?
I work four days a week, and I am in college three days a week, so when I get to class, I tend to do all my assessments in class before going home. I know when I go home, and when I pick my kids from school, I want to help them with their assignments. It has been difficult at times, but I am surviving.
What are your future plans after your course?
I’d like to get more experience and establish my own company. I hope it will give me spare time to look after my kids, look after myself, look after my family, and add more to the Scottish economy.
What advice would you give to new students?
What I would say to anyone coming to college for the first time is to be determined - that this is what you want to do, even before you apply for the course. Whatever course you want to do, have a determination in your heart, and don’t let anything distract you from that.
